Complaints

All Alberta Family Mediation Society (AFMS) members have agreed to subscribe to the Code of Professional Conduct established by the organization. This code is intended to govern the relations of family mediators with their clients, their professional colleagues and the general public so that all will benefit from high standards of practice in family mediation.

Family mediators are requested to report in writing (and to encourage their clients to report) observed breaches of this Code by members of Alberta Family Mediation Society to the Registrar or Chair of AFMS. Any breach of this Code of Professional Conduct may result in the invocation of the Complaints Management Procedure of AFMS.

The key elements of this process are the protection of the public, the maintenance of high professional standards for practicing family mediators and the provision of a fair, balanced and remedial process for members.

If you are concerned about the actions of an AFMS member, please set out your concerns in writing as per the Complaints Management Procedure and submit to [email protected] or mail to:

AFMS Complaints Management Committee

Please note AFMS only has the authority to deal with complaints of AFMS members, and we will not be able to help you deal with complaints about non-members. Current members of AFMS appear on the Find A Mediator or Find a Parenting Coordinator pages.
